Advancing Sustainability: Ajinomoto Collaborates with the Department of Industrial Works (DIW) to Drive Thai Food SMEs Towards Carbon Neutrality
Recently, Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., led by Mr. Smith Phetdi, Sustainability Promotion Department Manager, participated as a key speaker in a session titled "Carbon Neutrality for SMEs in Thailand (for the Food Industry)." The event was organized by the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), Ministry of Industry, and featured knowledge-sharing sessions with Mr. Jun Nishizawa, Director of the International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT), and Mr. Fukuya Iino from UNIDO, along with representatives from the Department of Climate Change and Environment and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO). The event took place at Kamolthip 1, 2nd floor, The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok.
This initiative brought together key stakeholders to drive sustainability efforts, encouraging the Thai industrial sector to adapt to international standards and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction policies. The event also aimed to promote the Green Industry concept while enhancing industrial competitiveness for long-term sustainability, in alignment with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). For Thailand, the Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER) is recognized as a crucial mechanism enabling industries to participate in the carbon credit system. This program supports companies and SMEs in reducing their GHG emissions across all scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3) through clear and systematic approaches.
Mr. Smith Phetdi stated: "Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is no longer an option but a necessity for businesses today. We focus on minimizing emissions throughout all processes, from internal production to energy consumption, resource utilization along the supply chain, and logistics. Collaboration among all stakeholders is the key to achieving this goal. We are committed to working with all sectors, including business partners, suppliers, and customers, to develop strategies that help achieve carbon neutrality while fostering a sustainable low-carbon economy."
This event was made possible with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Japan’s International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) played a key role in capacity-building efforts for Thai SMEs, focusing on GHG emissions calculation and implementing effective emission reduction measures. The initiative involved various collaborative activities with stakeholders to minimize environmental impacts and prepare industries for global environmental regulations. The goal is to achieve Net Zero and build a sustainable future together.
