Ajinomoto collaborates with Wastebuy Delivery to announce the purchase of multi-layer plastic collection for upcycling into usable items, delivering to Bangkok for public usage, and setting sustainable goals for plastic waste management
Bangkok, March 4, 2025 – Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Wastebuy Delivery Co., Ltd. to initiate the “Happy Upcycling Project: Collect Multi-layer Plastic for New Uses” activity. This initiative aims to promote recycling and the creation of a circular economy by transforming used food sachets, seasoning packages, and other plastic packaging into new useful items through the upcycling process. This process not only reduces the need for new resources but also decreases waste and supports long-term environmental conservation by collecting multi-layer plastic waste in community areas, Bang Phlat district, Thong temple, and all 50 districts throughout Bangkok, starting from April onwards.

The “Happy Upcycling Project: Collect Multi-layer Plastic for New Uses” activity seeks collaboration from consumers and businesses to collect shiny plastic sachets or multi-layer plastics, which are currently difficult and complex to recycle compared to other types of plastics. These collected sachets will be recycled and transformed into valuable new products such as bags, household items, fashion accessories, or even fuel. This effort not only reduces waste but also adds value to materials that would otherwise be discarded.
Dr. Surachit Pongsingwittaya, President of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, who witnessed the signing of the MOU, announced that the council has consistently promoted waste segregation and reduction policies and is fully supportive of the collaboration between the private sector, which will foster a circular economy and reduce waste. In this regard, private enterprises should expand their cooperation in managing multi-layer plastics across all districts in Bangkok, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Council members (BMC) in each district will support this initiative to ensure that local residents truly benefit.

Dr. Thongdee Paso, Managing Director of Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., said that this activity is part of Ajinomoto Thailand’s commitment to creating “Eat Well, Live Well.”, which emphasizes both promoting consumer health and enhancing the environment. Recycling used multi-layer plastic packaging into useful products such as household items, tables, and chairs is another way to reduce waste. Ajinomoto will donate these items to the BMA for decorating various public parks in Bangkok and producing fuel for further use.

Ajinomoto aims to create sustainable “Eat Well, Live Well.” for Thai society, continuously striving to reduce environmental impact. We are delighted to collaborate with a like-minded partner, Wastebuy Delivery, to drive this project towards success and create positive social and environmental impacts. We also thank the BMA for fully supporting the project. We believe that the collection of multi-layer plastic waste, which requires time and serious waste sorting, will achieve the intended success.
The “Happy Upcycling Project: Collect Multi-layer Plastic for New Uses” activity is supported by Wastebuy Delivery Co., Ltd., a business partner committed to developing recycling and waste transformation technologies to systematically collect multi-layer plastic waste, while the BMA will promote community participation by providing information and guidelines for properly collecting food and seasoning sachets to facilitate their reuse.
Dr. Ittikon Srichanban, Chairman of Wastebuy Delivery Co., Ltd., said that recycling is not just about reducing waste but also about adding value to leftover materials. Collaborating with Ajinomoto under BMA’s support is a practical application of sustainable resource use. Wastebuy Delivery is willing to share knowledge on waste sorting and creating value from household waste to encourage communities to recycle and reuse shiny sachets in various forms.

Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. will launch an event to promote the collection of multi-layer plastic waste for upcycling on March 15, 2025, at Chulalongkorn University’s Centenary Park, with the collection starting from April 2025 onwards. The collection of shiny plastic waste will commence from March 2025 onwards, and that collected waste will be processed into fuel oil or other products that can be utilized further.
The company expects that this initiative will be a significant step in changing societal attitudes towards recycling and environmental conservation, contributing to a sustainable future for our planet.
