Currently, the entire world is earnestly cooperating to contribute to global sustainability. Environmental issues are deemed important and are being urgently addressed by all sectors. As a leading global food company, “Ajinomoto” is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our business operations. We are striving to achieve the goal of reducing our environmental impact by 50% by 2030. To accomplish this, we have adopted environmentally friendly production technologies, as well as various innovations that help maximize the use of resources and energy in all activities. This includes switching to eco-friendly uniforms throughout the organization to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Ajinomoto reaffirms its commitment to sustainable care for the earth under the upcycling concept, transforming plastic bottle waste (PET Bottle) into environmentally friendly recycled fibers. These are produced from a perfect blend of recycled plastic woven into fibers, combined with natural cotton, allowing good air permeability for comfortable wear. With a minimalist style design focusing on neat cutting and attention to every detail, it is intended for all Ajinomoto members.

Upcycling refers to the process of reusing or recycling waste materials or items that are about to be discarded as trash, reintroducing them back into the usage cycle. This is done by improving and redesigning them into new products that are unlike the original, of better quality, and truly beneficial. This process does not degrade the quality and components of the material, but rather adds value to it through design and production, all while considering environmental impact as a priority.

“Upcycling helps breathe new life into leftover items, extending their lifespan and preventing them from becoming waste. It allows them to continue to be useful and can be seen as helping the environment. It also reduces the use of new environmental resources entering the production process. Recycling, on the other hand, involves bringing materials that can no longer be used back into the production cycle to transform and create new products. This also helps reduce the use of new natural materials in the production process.”

“When it comes to a single shirt, it might not seem like a big deal. However, our company has supplied 9,000 new eco-friendly uniforms. Each of these uniforms is made from the waste of plastic bottles (PET Bottle), with an average of 20 bottles used per piece. This means we have helped to reduce the amount of plastic waste that could have ended up in the sea or landfill by more than 180,000 bottles.”

Reduce plastic waste > 180,000 PET Bottles

Reduce CO2 >8,000 kgCO2e

Equal to CO2 absorbing by tree > 360 Trees

Moreover, the mentioned uniforms also have durable fabric that dries quickly and does not require ironing. This helps reduce energy usage and eliminates the need for hazardous chemicals in production. Furthermore, the innovation of upcycling also supports the creation of a circular economy, promoting, developing, and enhancing sustainability by maximizing the benefits derived from resources.

“Eco-friendly Uniforms” reinforces Ajinomoto’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our business operations. We are striving to achieve the goal of reducing our environmental impact by 50% by 2030 for sustainable development in all dimensions, and to create well-being and happiness for Thai society.
