The First Step in Driving EPR

Since March, "Ajinomoto" has launched the “Waste to Worth for Well-Being” campaign, marking the first step in promoting EPR. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to addressing plastic waste and aims to reduce its environmental impact by 50% by 2030. In Phase 1 (April-July 2024), the company is collecting all types of packaging waste through the Trash Lucky startup, in collaboration with Dusit District and three model communities. Over 5,401 kilograms of waste have been recycled and converted into fuel energy.

Ajinomoto x Wat Chak Daeng (August–November 2024)
We continue to promote sustainable waste management for Thai well-being in collaboration with the Our Khung BangKachao project at Wat Chak Daeng. The campaign invites local communities to collect Multilayer plastics (MLPs) and Bottles (PET) under the concept "Exchanging trash for points, Collecting happiness". The goal is to raise awareness about the impact of waste pollution on quality of life and to encourage waste segregation at the household level. All collected waste will be processed through an efficient recycling system at Wat Chak Daeng.

  • In Phase 2, the initiative successfully collected over 52,191 pieces of post-consumer packaging waste from the community and sent it for recycling. This included 34,569 pieces of multilayer plastics (MLPs) and 17,622 plastic bottles (PET).
  • Through this collaboration in addressing household plastic waste, in addition to reducing waste volume, the recycled multilayer plastic was processed into diesel fuel equivalent to 76.6 liters. Meanwhile, the used plastic bottles were upcycled into socially valuable products, such as being transformed into "recycled monk robes" equivalent to 1,174 robes.
  • Furthermore, the reduced waste volume also contributed to lowering carbon dioxide emissions by more than 344 kgCO2e, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 43 households for one day.

The project demonstrates producers' commitment to sustainable packaging management under the circular economy concept, aiming for zero plastic waste by 2030. It promotes resource efficiency, encourages community participation in waste segregation, reduces waste in oceans and landfills, and fosters a sustainable ecosystem to improve Thai society's well-being.
