Recently, Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by participating in “Green Hug: The Green Market Event” at Chula Soi 5. During the event, the company showcased its flagship campaign, “Waste to Worth for Well-Being”, which promotes the collection and recovery of used product packaging. The initiative aims to advance circular economy practices, reduce plastic waste, and connect people, communities, and society to drive meaningful environmental change.

Ajinomoto at the “Bangkok Green City” Talk Session

At Green Hug, Mr. Smith Phetdi, Manager of the Sustainability Promotion Department, served as a key speaker in the “Bangkok Green City” panel discussion, joining representatives from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and environmental partners. He emphasized that environmental care does not need to begin with big actions, as small habits practiced consistently can make a meaningful difference, such as properly sorting small pieces of waste to prevent them from leaking into the environment.

Mr. Smith stated:
“Lasting change can start from small daily actions. Even one properly returned multilayer sachet can help keep the city clean and turn waste into new value. Our ‘Waste to Worth for Well-Being’ campaign reflects our long-term commitment to building a packaging take-back system people can truly adopt.”

The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration among citizens, businesses, and the public sector to collectively push Bangkok toward becoming a truly sustainable green city.

“Waste to Worth for Well-Being” – Ajinomoto’s EPR Commitment

Ajinomoto Thailand introduced the “Waste to Worth for Well-Being” program under the principles of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) the company’s commitment to responsible packaging management. The initiative ensures that post-consumer packaging, especially “Multi-Layer Packaging (MLP),” does not end up mixed with general waste.

The company currently operates multiple recovery channels, including:

  • Over 25 MLP drop-off points nationwide

  • MLP Return-for-Value Program

  • Packaging collection activities in collaboration with local communities and recycling markets

Returned materials are properly processed and diverted into value-driven pathways. Some are upcycled into new products, such as recycled-plastic storage shelves and recycled school desks and chairs, which are delivered to schools. Others are recovered for aluminium, oil extraction, agricultural use, or converted into alternative fuel.

All efforts are aligned with the Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV) approach, which emphasizes delivering shared value to people, society, and the environment.

Creative Corner: Turning Small Waste into New Value

Ajinomoto’s booth received an enthusiastic response from eco-conscious visitors. Attendees brought multilayer sachets and plastic bottle caps to return, and participated in the Eco- Keychain Workshop, transforming recycled materials into one-of-a-kind handcrafted keychains. Participants also received Ajinomoto products as tokens of appreciation.

Advancing Sustainable Packaging for the Future

Ajinomoto continues to push forward sustainable packaging development, focusing on reducing plastic use, increasing recyclability, and minimizing unnecessary resource consumption. These efforts are guided by the company’s core principles of ensuring product quality and safety, while simultaneously reducing environmental impact a foundation for all product research and innovation at Ajinomoto.

A Long-Term Mission for Everyone

The “Waste to Worth for Well-Being” campaign reflects Ajinomoto’s long-term vision to build a packaging recovery system that everyone can participate in sustainably. The company believes that every sachet has value when placed in the right system, and that every person plays a vital role in driving collective change.

With just one small action, we can all start creating a better world together.
