Ajinomoto is delighted with the success of the first quarter campaign “Waste to Worth for Well-Being,” which returned over 5.4 tons of packaging waste to recycling

In March, 'Ajinomoto x Trash Lucky' launched the 'Waste to Worth for Well-Being' campaign to reinforce the company’s commitment to addressing plastic waste concretely. This initiative aligns with the goal of reducing environmental impact by 50% by 2030, focusing on sustainable packaging management and aiming to recover packaging waste, especially from communities where collection and disposal are challenging.

In the first quarter of the mission to help Thais achieve 'Well-Being' through the innovative waste startup Trash Lucky, which transforms waste into treasure, the focus was on promoting sustainability in collaboration with households to manage plastic waste. Under the concept of “Exchanging Trash for Points, Collecting Happiness,” the initiative was conducted in partnership with the Dusit District, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and pioneering community leaders from three pilot model communities: the Sirisat Flats, Tor Pa, and Krua Tai communities. The shared goal was to raise awareness among community members about the impact of waste pollution on their quality of life and to motivate them to sort waste. This was achieved through a platform that allows everyone to manage recyclable waste themselves. Any packaging waste collected from these communities will be recycled and transformed into fuel (RDF; refuse-derived fuel).

The results of the packaging waste collection from communities (May-July) show that a total of over 5,401 kilograms of post-consumer packaging waste were collected and sent to the recycling system. This total includes 1,182 kilograms of plastic packaging waste, which is categorized into 47 kilograms of mixed plastic waste, and 4,219 kilograms of other types of packaging waste.

Reduction in packaging waste => 5,401 kilograms

Reduction in carbon dioxide emissions => 4,284 kg CO2e

Equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by mature trees => 476 trees

This project demonstrates the commitment of producers to sustainable packaging management, following the circular economy model. This model promotes sustainability by maximizing the use of limited resources, with the goal of achieving zero plastic waste by 2030. In addition to shifting community perceptions to better value waste and encouraging community participation in waste sorting at the source, it also helps reduce the amount of waste dumped into the sea or sent to landfills. This initiative is part of the broader effort to restore the environment, leading to sustainable development in all dimensions and creating well-being and happiness in Thai society.
