"Birdy® 3in1," a well-known instant coffee mix powder product that is one of the quality brands under Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., takes part in reducing plastic waste and food waste, reflecting the commitment of the Ajinomoto Group worldwide to achieve a 50% reduction of environmental impact by 2030 while gearing up business activities for sustainable development in all dimensions and throughout the entire production processes.

Data from the Pollution Control Department of Thailand revealed that in the past year, Thai people generated up to 24.98 million tons of waste, with plastic waste and food waste making up the majority of the country's solid waste. The Ajinomoto Group, as a world food-leading company, is aware of these waste issues and aims to be a part of reducing environmental problems to create a zero-plastic waste society in the future. Therefore, the company has started looking for ways to apply the idea of eco-friendly packaging to our products in order to help minimize the amount of waste generated in a sustainable way.

Birdy® 3in1 has taken steps to reduce plastic used in product packaging while still maintaining the good quality and quantity of the product, including changing the outer packaging to be recyclable packaging, adjusting the size of the coffee sachet to be shorter, reducing the thickness of the plastic layer on the pillow bag and coffee sachet, and stopping the use of polyethylene plastic (PE Bag) for wrapping the outer packaging. As a result, it can help reduce the amount of plastic used in production by more than 39 tons per year, or equivalent to over 1,200,000 of 1.5-liter water bottles. In addition, the company also conducted a feasibility study to create value for coffee grounds left over from the production process of "Birdy® 3in1" by successfully mixing them into pig feeds. This is regarded as a sustainable method of reducing food waste that results from the production process by reusing it in the livestock sector to support pig farmers in lowering the long-term cost of piglet food in the long run.

Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd. has been conducting business in Thailand, giving importance to delivering value through products that understand the needs of consumers and take care of social and environmental problems to become a "solution-providing group of companies for food and health issues" under "The Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value (ASV)" as a conceptual framework for the Ajinomoto Group's work worldwide.
