Sustainable Procurement

Until recently, the focus of eco-friendly procurement has mainly been focused on environmental aspects. Also known as "green sourcing" and green procurement, this movement seeks to substitute one material for a more ecologically friendly alternative. Think of paper straws instead of plastic. But sustainable procurement has more to it than that. Sustainable procurement is a process that integrates environmental, governance, and social factors of corporate responsibility into procurement processes and decision-making, while ensuring they still meet the stakeholder requirements. It aims for the lowest environmental impact possible and the most positive social results.
 

Ajinomoto Co., (Thailand) Ltd., responds to the Ajinomoto Group’s policy in striving to work to reduce environmental impacts by adhering Green Technology for better Earth Partner as a framework driven through all business activities in every establishment which aims to reduce environmental impacts and regenerate the environment sustainably.
 

As a global leading food company, the company has made the commitment under Green Technology for better Earth Partner to uphold global sustainability through a variety of activities such as the use of environmentally friendly production technology, eco-friendly packaging development, plastic reduction and switching to use recyclable plastic including the use of paper from planted forest in effort to reduce deforestation. Ajinomoto has engrained the zero emission principle into its business practices to maximize reducing environmental impacts. In addition, Ajinomoto strives to use of sustainable procurement management by emphasizing on procuring raw materials from the sources that comply with environmentally friendly practice or less create environmental impacts such as the switching to use paper packages with certified the FSC standards, etc.
 

Moreover, Ajinomoto Thailand is dedicating to achieving a long-term goal of increasing as 100% of sustainable procurement ratio by 2030 and switching to use FSC-certified for paper container packaging. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests which is the world’s most respected and widespread forest certification system.
 

FSC forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability. FSC-certified forests are managed to strict environmental, social and economic standards. These principles cover a broad range of issues, from maintaining high conservation values to community relations and workers’ rights, as well as monitoring the environmental and social impacts of the forest management.
 

For the purpose that, the company currently successfully implemented sustainable packaging management by switching more than 90% to use FSC-certified for paper container packaging which consist of AJI-NO-MOTO® product, RosDee® product, RosDee menu™ product, Birdy® product, Birdy® 3in1 product, and Ajinomoto® Plus product and still continuously in effort to achieving a long-term goal of increasing as 100% of sustainable procurement ratio by 2030. This is one of commitments to create better quality of life to Thai society in accordance with our corporate policy “the Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value: ASV)”.
 

Furthermore, Ajinomoto aims to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Company integrates these goals into its business operations to ensure that the Company’s growth takes place in a sustainable manner. As above-mentioned, “Sustainable Procurement” consistent with sustainable development goals No.12 Responsible Consumption and Production; Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (12.2) and No.15 Life on Land; Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
